The most effective design doesn’t just solve problems — it helps people move through them with clarity and confidence.
A Brief
Angela Calvin.
Co-founder and Experience Design & Visual Systems Strategist
Angie brings together UX strategy and visual storytelling to shape product experiences that feel both intuitive and distinct. She leads the visual and interaction direction across projects — translating complex ideas into systems, flows, and interfaces that users can immediately understand and engage with. Her work spans mobile applications, product experiences, and branded illustration systems for startups and mission-driven organizations. She’s particularly skilled at identifying unexpected connections and turning them into design solutions that are both thoughtful and memorable. Beyond the screen, Angie is a trained Afro-Latin dance instructor and performer, with a deep practice in salsa, bomba, and samba. That sense of rhythm and movement carries into her design work — influencing how she approaches flow, pacing, and interaction.

Q
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Harlem, New York. I grew up and attended university in Las Cruces, New Mexico, spent over a decade in San Diego, and now split my time between Atlanta and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
How does your background influence your approach to design?
I come from a mix of visual art, dance, and writing, which shapes how I approach design. I think a lot about movement, composition, and emotional tone — not just how something looks, but how it feels to move through.
What are you reading or listening to these days?
I recently read Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Lately I’ve been exploring Spotify’s curated mixes and discovering new artists that way — Emmavie has been on repeat.
What do you usually do in your spare time?
Dance is a big part of my life. I train regularly in Afro-Latin styles like salsa, samba, and bomba — it’s both creative expression and a way to reset after long design sessions.
How do you collaborate as a team, and what makes your partnership unique?
We work without ego and lean into each other’s strengths. Because we know how each other thinks, we move quickly, make decisions efficiently, and stay aligned without a lot of overhead.
Favorite foods/drinks?
Sushi, Cuban food, and Mexican cuisine are always in rotation. For drinks — mezcal or a well-made Moscow mule.
Any guilty pleasures?
Any show involving witches, warlocks, or supernatural storylines.
What kind of projects excite you the most?
Projects that take something complex and make it feel clear, expressive, and engaging — especially when there’s room to bring a strong visual perspective into the experience.
